We’ll work with you and your CPA or tax attorney to make sure that you are being tax-efficient in everything that you do. This is especially critical now as tax laws are changing in a way that will raise tax levels for most people.

Starmont helps with the taxes that impact most Clients’ net worth:

• – Income taxes
• – Capital gains taxes
• – Gift taxes
• – Estate taxes

With respect to income and capital gains taxes:

• – Starmont puts investments generating non-taxable income in taxable accounts, and puts investments generating taxable income in tax-deferred accounts (like IRAs).
• – In deciding whether to sell an investment in a taxable account, we always consider the tax impact of the sale.
• – In January, we email to all Clients’ tax preparers the income and capital gains incurred in our Clients’ taxable accounts in the year just concluded, as well as any required minimum distributions made from our Clients’ retirement accounts so that the tax preparers can:
  • – Ensure that any estimated tax payments paid in January reflect the actual income, gain and RMDs, and not estimates.
  • – Upload these numbers into your tax returns, thus saving time and hopefully lowering costs.
• – We will meet with you and your tax advisor(s) as needed to discuss tax planning and the implementation of any decisions made in such meetings.

With respect to gift taxes:

• – Starmont can work with you and your CPA or tax attorney to structure gifts that use your annual or lifetime gift-tax exemption so that you can make gifts as you choose without incurring any gift taxes.

With respect to estate taxes:

• – Starmont ensures that you have an estate plan in place, and if you do not, and do not have an estate planning attorney, we will introduce you to one.

We will meet with you and your estate planning attorney as needed to review your estate plan and suggest any changes that may be necessary given changes in the law and/or in your life, and will participate as necessary in the implementation of your plan.
